Value in Education

Natalia Reyes '18

Natalia Reyes ’18 is independent and driven, especially when it comes to her education. As an English major with a concentration in broadcasting, Reyes works to put her creative thoughts on screen. In fact, it’s her dream to forge a career in modern day media because she finds joy in working with the industry’s production process.

“I want to become a part of a major news network,” she stated. “I feel that MCLA has provided me with practical learning through hands-on programs that will set me on the right path for a career in broadcast communications.”

In taking communication classes with both Professor Birch and Ebiware, she has learned to value her time in the classroom and take her education seriously.

“Education is one of the most important things to have in life,” she claimed. “I feel like an education opens up a new world of passions and opportunities.”

It is that very belief in the importance of education that has caused her to participate in the Phonathon program. She enjoys reaching out to alumni in an effort to build a better network for her and her peers. As she begins each call, she is excited to learn about the experiences of those who came before her; how their education impacted them; and how they got to where they are today.

“I feel strongly that everyone deserves an education and it is my hope that our alumni will give because they were once in our shoes. Their support can assist my peers and I in achieving more than we ever thought possible,” she said. “When our alumni give, they help a student with potential reach higher than imagined.”
