Athletics update
The winter athletics season is in full swing and both basketball programs are competing in conference play. The women's basketball team got off to a nice start beginning the season at 8-3 prior to opening MASCAC play. January also marks the start of preseason practice for three spring programs: baseball, softball, and women's lacrosse. All three programs will begin play over spring break in Florida. View full schedules at athletics.mcla.edu.
MCLA will continue its tradition of hosting a National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration, which is entering its 26th year in existence! This year's celebration is being held on Saturday, January 30 and will culminate with the basketball doubleheader featuring the Trailblazers battling the Worcester State Lancers.
Although the Trailblazers' fall season has ended, the awards continue to come in. Volleyball head coach Amanda Beckwith '03, M.Ed. '13 was selected as the ECAC New England Coach of the Year, and junior Allison Clark was named All New England. In women's soccer, head coach Deb Raber's team was honored with the Silver Award for Ethics by the NSCAA, and senior Alexi Anderson was named to the All New England team for her on field efforts in 2015.

MCLA Presents! The Blind Date Project Co-presented with Williams College
February 5 & 6, 8 p.m. Hops & Vines Williamstown, MA
The apprehension of going on a blind date is suddenly compounded when a group of people — you, the audience — gather to witness an improvised meeting between two complete strangers in a karaoke bar. Guided only by text messages and phone calls and interspersed with random songs, each performance promises to be as unpredictable as it is dangerous.

Paul J. Groff Jr. ’15
In 2015, Paul J. Groff Jr. ’15, of Mechanicville, New York, found himself on stage, about to sing one of two solos in front of hundreds of people at the International Competition for Collegiate A Capella (ICCA) in Boston. Perhaps best known for its inclusion in the Pitch Perfect movies, the ICCA invited MCLA’s a capella group, the Allegrettos, to perform.
“I felt like a natural. I wasn’t really nervous anymore. I gave it my all,” Paul said. “It was probably one of the best things I did at MCLA – besides research conferences.”
While at MCLA, Paul served as an admissions ambassador and as secretary to the Education Club. In addition, he co-founded and served as the president of the Sociological Society club.
